The depth and breadth of analysis that goes into every research report is our key difference.

Best Practice Research

Through our proprietary research process, we deliver insight into the challenges facing industry-leading firms and share best practice case studies of innovative solutions.

The depth and breadth of analysis that goes into every research report is our key difference. To produce each report, we spend countless hours interviewing leading retirement practitioners, pouring over stacks of third-party research, fielding our own proprietary surveys, and testing our insights with acknowledged experts. In the end, our coverage of any given retirement topic provides you with a deep dive into the latest thinking and best practices from across the industry. Our most recent topics include:

  •   Financial wellness
  •   Recordkeeping sales and relationship management
  •   DCIO coverage and sales models
  •   Managed accounts
  •   Retirement income
We believe that understanding the right response to shifts in the industry landscape is just as important as learning about the shift itself. For that reason, our reports typically include multiple, detailed case studies that show the actions leading firms are taking to capitalize on the larger trends. To see a case example from our recent report on DCIO sales, click here.

All our research is downloadable from our website. In addition, we bring to life many of our more comprehensive research studies via webinars and podcasts.

Meetings & Networking

Join senior retirement leaders to learn about and discuss the latest retirement trends. Peer-to-peer interaction and research-backed insights make our events different from the typical conference.

To ensure a high level of relevance to attendees, each of our events is tailored to a specific audience within the larger retirement landscape. So, whether you work as a recordkeeper, an asset manager, or a retirement advisor, we have you covered.

Recordkeepers. We’ve designed our recordkeeper events to appeal to three key constituencies that together drive the strategy for their firms.

    • Sales Leadership. We convene small groups of sales leaders to discuss the latest retirement sales trends. Our events also serve as a valuable tool to better understand competitive issues such as compensation, pricing models, team structure, and technology usage.
    • Relationship Management Leadership. Our events for RM leadership help them better understand the external environment and navigate their management challenges such as caseloads, organizational structures, and performance management.
    • Product and Service Strategy. Each year, we convene thought leaders from the top recordkeepers for a deep dive on the most important product and service topics. Past events have focused on participant personalization, financial wellness, service economics, and data/analytics.

DCIO Leadership. Asset managers continually struggle to differentiate themselves beyond the three Fs of fees, fiduciary, and funds. Our annual DCIO meeting draws sales and national accounts leadership from the top asset managers in the DCIO space to discuss how firms can take advantage of critical developments in distribution and product innovation.

Retirement Advisory Firms. With the emergence of the “aggregators,” the retirement distribution landscape has been completely altered. Our retirement advisory firm events help executives at these firms understand how to compete in this new environment while they manage the challenges associated with leading larger organizations.

The answers are out there, and we know where to find them.

Custom Advisory Services

Sometimes you need answers right away to your specific challenge. Our ad hoc, customized support gives you answers to your urgent questions through surveys of your peers, data searches, live consultations, or customized presentations.

The answers are out there, and we know where to find them. Send us your toughest question, and we’ll get an answer by combing through our decades of research, tapping into our network of members, consulting leading experts, scouring the internet, and even executive custom surveys. Then we’ll present the results back to you, your team, your management, or your clients.

And at RLF, “custom” doesn’t mean extra cost. All these projects are conducted within the scope of the annual membership fee. Read about a few recent examples below:

Presentation for a Project Kickoff. A large recordkeeper was kicking off a critical new project to rebuild their financial wellness capabilities, but didn’t know where to start. We worked with the team to understand their objectives and goals, then created a custom presentation to help their entire team understand the most important trends and best practices in financial wellness among the top retirement recordkeepers. Client Event Keynote Presentation. An asset manager was hosting their top advisors and consultants for a day of sharing their latest new products and value-added services. We created and delivered a keynote presentation that was customized to align with the asset managers strategic direction, providing critical third-party validation that the firm was a valuable partner for the advisor community. Ad-Hoc Member Survey. A member was planning changes to their electronic document delivery practices, however, the entire project felt stuck because they did not have a clear idea of standard industry practice. In advance of their next project meeting, we fielded a survey and prepared a report for the member on the electronic delivery practices of ten of the top recordkeepers (all within 10 days).
